Tai Chi, short for Tai ji quan, is a Chinese Martial Art known for it’s health benefits and meditation. Through movement and breathing, Tai Chi helps focus the mind, reduce stress, and help with balance and range of motion.
The library offers a Tai Chi for Better Balance class every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9 am. Our Assistant Librarian, Teresa Carey, was trained to teach this class by OHAI (Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative). The class is geared toward the elderly and infirm, however it is open to anyone who would like a beginners look at Tai Chi.
In the video below, Teresa demonstrates some of the movements that are used in her class. These can even be done from a chair if you are unable to stand the entire time.
